By
way of introduction, I am Sam Sieben, also known as Sam the TV Man!
I own & operate In-Home TV Repair with my wife, Nancy. Now over
60, I have been in the consumer electronics repair industry for
40+ years. I am a Certified Electronics Technician (CET) and
a Certified Service Manager (CSM). During the first eight
years of my career, I owned and operated Economy Television Service,
Redwood City, CA, where I learned the importance and the need
for "honest" low-cost (and low-overhead) in-home
repair services. |
In
1973, I worked for Art Blumenthal Co., Redwood City, CA,
a quality warranty repair center
for RCA, Magnavox,
and Zenith. My boss was an avid perfectionist. During that
3 1/2 year employment, I learned the importance of performing
repairs to the exact specifications of the manufacturers,
and most importantly, those of my boss!. It is my observation
that many repeat failures are specifically due to "poor work-product" by
technicians with undisciplined work-ethics.
|
|
In
1978, I moved to Seattle, and began an eight year employment with
GE Factory Service. GE heavily emphasized customer service.
Their "Quality of Service" program taught me
the importance of "image". To this
day I wear a uniform, keep a professional toolkit, use a drop cloth,
and even willingly take my shoes off at the door if it would benefit
my customer. Little things like stepping back 4 feet from the door
after ringing the bell was typical of the training I received from
GE! |
In
1986, GE bought RCA, and sold the combined division to Thomson Consumer
Electronics, a French company who took over manufacturing and marketing
the RCA/GE/Proscan/Scenium consumer electronics product lines. I
left GE at that time, and started Precision Electronics, Inc., Redmond,
WA. Precision Electronics, a warranty repair center for twenty-six
brands, employing up to seven others. We serviced camcorders,
VCR's, TV's, CD's, audio, etc. Although my workweek involved
long days, I enjoyed working with others, and immersing myself in
the intricacies of managing employees. |
| In
1993 I sold Precision Electronics, to seek a less complex life.
So in March, 1993 I started In-Home TV Repair. My life is simpler
now, and involves the culmination of all of my life's experiences.
In addition to driving a service vehicle outfitted with $50,000
in equipment and inventory, I benefit from my past work related experience
so that, on the very first call, I repair better than 85% of my customer's
TV sets. That efficiency coupled with lower overhead allows me to
provide a very competitive work product where I can individually supervise
each and every repair! I believe I offer my customers a
truly unique and quality repair service! |
